Four C's
The concept of the Four C's originated in the world of diamonds and gemstones and was introduced by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in the mid-20th century. The GIA is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to research and education in the field of gemology.
The idea was to establish a standardized system for evaluating and communicating the quality of diamonds, providing consumers and the jewelry industry with a common language to discuss and assess these precious gems. The GIA identified four key factors, Carat, Clarity, Colour and Cut that significantly influence the overall value and beauty of a diamond, and these factors became known as the Four C's.
While the Four C's were initially developed for diamonds, they have been widely adopted and adapted for other gemstones and jewelry as well. This system has become an industry standard, providing consumers with a comprehensive understanding of a gemstone's characteristics and quality.
